Since Henry Ford revolutionized mass production by making cars on the moving
assembly line, Michigan has been synonymous with the automobile. The affordable
Model T put America and the world on wheels and gave people the freedom of
movement that before eluded them. The "Tin Lizzie" allowed people to live, work
and vacation where they wanted.
During the 20th century, the automobile created new industries where none
existed before, and it helped shape Michigan's history, culture and economy.
Today, one in every six Michiganians works for an automaker or has a job in a
company that is related to the automobile industry.
EDCO Publishing collaborated with the Ford Motor Company to develop the "Michigan On The Move"
unit. It is designed to help your students learn about and gain an appreciation
for Michigan's rich automotive history, and learn about the many innovations
taking place at the historic Ford Rouge Center.
