Seldom in education is there a prepared program that provides for a real opportunity for students to become "responsible, informed citizens". L.A.P.s is a program that does just that.
In addition to helping youngsters and their teachers learn more about their state, its history and resources, it is also very 'brain
compatible'. Brain Compatible learning is meaningful, relevant content, with the intention that what we are learning has purpose. The brain always searches for meaning-remember how many times you wanted to ask your teacher, "Why do we have to know this"?
L.A.P.s provides for 'experiential learning' - an opportunity for many of our 19 senses to gather information.
It is 'physical', visiting a L.A.P.s site encourages our students to move, to explore, to recognize and to appreciate what their state has to offer.
If I had only one program I could use to teach basic skills, standards, enjoyment of learning and responsible citizenship, it would be L.A.P.s!
No other program is as comprehensive and mission driven.
All standards can be incorporated into any L.A.P.s location and classroom - because it is the real world and not the textbook world.
If I were in charge of education in the United States I would expect EVERY state to develop a similar program. We protect only what we understand and perceive to have value. The L.A.P.s program easily outdistances any other curriculum program available today.
Sincerely, An educator who has seen it all in 41 years and believes L.A.P.s to be the most worthy.
SUMMARY of the L.A.P.s REVIEW

Author, How the Brain Learns
In the last 16 years that I have been actively involved with brain
compatible education, I have been asked to review dozens of educational programs and units. With all honesty, I can say that the L.A.P.'s Program is one of the very few that I have evaluated that contains all the essential components of the research on brain compatible approaches. It is an exciting, student-centered, content-rich, multi-level, and integrated program that will enhance student interest in the important cultural and historic aspects of the State of Michigan. It deserves any and all awards it can get. My fervent hope is that it will become a model for the other 49 states to adopt.
