Did You Know?

There is a Michigan State Park or recreation area within one hour of any school
in Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers 4th grade teachers the
opportunity to conduct an Outdoor Classroom in any Michigan State Park or
Recreation Area.

All materials and park admission (for buses), are FREE.

Reservations can be scheduled for any day of the year.

The programs materials and activities were developed to align with what
fourth graders are already learning, including history, science, social
studies, math and language arts.

When teachers call the Kids In The Park toll-free number to reserve
a field trip, they will get a free classroom packet of specially designed
materials that include pre-visit, on-site and post-visit lessons, which can be
accomplished within the context of a state park visit.

A Kids in the Park Teachers Guide and Answer Key is included with each
set of materials.

Materials support the Michigan DNRs Michigan L.A.P.s Program
currently used in elementary schools.

About the
program...
These materials
were designed to be used by fourth grade teachers when taking students on a
field trip to any state park. The Kids In The Park materials include:
* a Kids In The
Park Teacher Folder with pre and post CONNECT-IT activities, Answer Key,
Teaching Poster and Evaluation Card.
* a Kids In The Park Journal for each student with CONNECT-IT activities.
Most of these activities are to be completed during the field trip.
These CONNECT-IT activities expand and reinforce the lessons included in
the Michigan L.A.P.s Program that promotes fun, appreciation and
knowledge of Michigans great outdoor heritage.
