Michigan L.A.P.’s™ Program
L.A.P.s™ Materials

In order to increase public knowledge and appreciation for Michigan’s wonderful natural resources, EDCO and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources partnered to create L.A.P.’s™

Learn from the past, Appreciate the present and Preserve our outdoor heritage.

This complimentary program teaches Michigan fourth graders about Michigan’s history and natural resources.

120,000 Michigan 4th graders learn about Michigan history and natural resources in their classrooms through our L.A.P.’s™ program each year.

Nearly 4,500 fourth grade teachers use L.A.P.’s™ in their classrooms. This is nearly 80% of all Michigan fourth grade teachers.

Over 9,000 Teachers, Consultants and Administrators have attended complimentary, voluntary, inservice training on the program. Over the past five years over 600,000 Michigan fourth graders have used the L.A.P.’s™ materials.

Subscriptions to the complimentary Outdoor Explorers Club Newsletter – A quarterly newsletter that is sent to children 12 and younger has grown over the past five years from 5,000 to nearly 50,000.

More teachers and children know about natural resources and about the DNR and what it does then at any other time in our state’s history.

Michigan On The Move Program
EDCO collaborated with the Ford Motor Company to create the Michigan On The Move Program to help students learn about and gain an appreciation for Michigan’s rich automotive history, and learn about the many innovations taking place at the historic Ford Rouge Center.
Like the L.A.P.’s™ Program the materials and activities in this unit supplement the existing curriculum and ...
  • are aligned with the Michigan Curriculum Framework.
  • are aligned with the Grade Level Expectations for “No Child Left Behind”
  • reinforce skills and strategies students need to be more successful on the MEAP tests
  • reinforce the research on brain-compatible learning and best practices.

Over 4,300 teachers requested this complimentary program and were sent the program in October, 2003.
